How does this find the fields to fill in?

We scan the PDF for its existing fillable form fields (text boxes, checkboxes) and generate an input for each one automatically.

What if my PDF doesn't have fillable fields?

This tool only works with PDFs that already have an interactive form built in — if yours doesn't, use our Edit PDF tool to add text at specific positions instead.

What does 'make permanent' do?

Flattening burns your entered values into the page content itself, so they display correctly everywhere even if a viewer doesn't render form fields — but the form stops being editable afterward.
